भय-भीता गोप-मुख्याः
स-कुटुम्बा जिगीषवः
शिशून् स्वान् स्वान् पुरस्कृत्य
नन्द-मन्दिरम् आययुः

bhaya-bhītā gopa-mukhyāḥ
sa-kuṭumbā jigīṣavaḥ
śiśūn svān svān puraskṛtya
nanda-mandiram āyayuḥ

bhaya-bhītā—terrified; gopa-mukhyāḥthe gopas; sa-kuṭumbā—with their families; jigīṣavaḥ—wishing to be safe; śiśūn—children; svān svānpown; puraskṛtya—placing in front; nanda-mandiram—to Nanda's palace; āyayuḥ—came.

English translation of verse 3.2.9:

Wishing to save themselves, the gopas and their families, with the children in front, ran to Nanda's palace.
