The Garga-samhita Verse 2.14.10, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 2 of Chapter 14 (Description of Kaliya’s Story) of Canto 2 (vrindavana-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

प्रसार्य स्वं फण-शतं
कालियः फणिनां वरः
व्यदशद् गरुडं वेगाद्
दद्भिर् विषमयैर् बली

prasārya svaṃ phaṇa-śataṃ
kāliyaḥ phaṇināṃ varaḥ
vyadaśad garuḍaṃ vegād
dadbhir viṣamayair balī

prasārya—expanding; svam—his; phaṇa-śatam—hundred hoods; kāliyaḥKaliya; phaṇinām—of snakes; varaḥ—the best; vyadaśat—bit; garuḍam—Garuḍa; vegāt—strongly; dadbhiḥ—with many fangs; viṣamayaiḥ—poisonous; balīstrong.

English translation of verse 2.14.10:

Then Kāliya, the best of snakes, expanded his hundred hoods and with many fangs savagely bit Garuḍa.
