The Garga-samhita Verse 2.14.5, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 2 of Chapter 14 (Description of Kaliya’s Story) of Canto 2 (vrindavana-khanda).

श्री-गरुड उवाच
एकः सर्पस् तु मे देयो
भवद्भिर् वा गृहात् पृथक्
कथं पचामि तम् ऋते
बलिं वीटकवत् परम्

śrī-garuḍa uvāca
ekaḥ sarpas tu me deyo
bhavadbhir vā gṛhāt pṛthak
kathaṃ pacāmi tam ṛte
baliṃ vīṭakavat param

śrī-garuḍaḥ uvāca—Śrī Garuḍa said; ekaḥ—one; sarpaḥsnake; tu—indeed; me—to me; deyaḥshould be given; bhavadbhiḥ—by you; vā—or; gṛhāt—from the house; pṛthakspecific; katham—why?; pacāmi—I shall eat; tam—that; ṛte—without; balim—offering; vīṭakavat—like betelnuts; param—great.

English translation of verse 2.14.5:

Śrī Garuḍa said: Give me one snake from a designated house. Why should I eat any snake but this offering sweet as betelnuts.
