Let us Adore the Sun

Subramania Bharati (Translated from Tamil by R. Sundaresan)

SUBRAMANIA BHARATI

O learned men! O all lives, elements,
Energies, all ye come!
Let us adore the sun! Come!
He is our guardian.
He gives us rain.
It is good that it rains.
We adore the God of Rain.
The sun indulges in jugglery.
He transforms water into vapour and takes it above.
He orders the wind to change it again into water.
It rains sweetly.
Rain sings.
Rains are the strings of musical instruments.
Poles made of sparkling diamonds fall from the sky.
The woman-earth quenches her thirst.
Heat causes coolness, coolness heat.
As everything becomes one and the same thing,
Heat is Tapas, coolness Yoga,
Heat is male, coolness female,
Heat is mighty, coolness sweet,
Is not a female more honoured than a male?
We adore the God of Heat.
Let Him thrive.
