This page relates ‘Conclusion’ of the study on the Kashyapa Shilpa-shastra (in English) with special reference to the characteristics of Prakara (temple-components), Mandapa (pavilions) and Gopura (gate-house). The Silpa-Sastras refers to the ancient Indian science of arts and crafts, such as sculpture, architecture and iconography. This study demonstrates the correlatation between ancient Indian monuments (such as temples and sculptures) and the variety of Sanskrit scriptures dealing with their construction.

After tracing the genealogy of Kāśyapa, the similarities of the text Kāśyapa Śilpaśāstra with the Śaivāgamas has been explained. The contents of the chapters of the text have been enumerated and the date of the text has been fixed. The technical terms are shown with illustrations; there are also other terms discussed in the text which require elucidation on the basis of the Agamic and Architectural treatises. If some more manuscripts with definite readings could be found, then they may throw more light on these concepts.

The following chapters will form the main part of the thesis to delibrate at length on the description of the prākāras, maṇḍapas and the gopuras as explained in the text Kāśyapa Śilpaśāstra.
