The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.8.44; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.
Verse 4.8.44
śrī-viṣṇu-dharmottare ca —
rasānāṃ samavetānāṃ yasya rūpaṃ bhaved bahu |
sa mantavyo rasaḥ sthāyī śeṣāḥ saṅcāriṇo matāḥ ||4.8.44||
Śrī Viṣṇu-dharmottara says:
“In a combination of rasas, the rasa whose form is most prominent is considered the sthāyī-bhāva, and the rest should be considered to have the function of vyabhicārī-bhāvas.”
