The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.8.43; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

तथा च नाट्याचार्याः पठन्ति —
एक एव भवेत् स्थायी रसो मुख्यतमो हि यः ।
रसास् तद्-अनुयायित्वाद् अन्ये स्युर् व्यभिचारिणः ॥४.८.४३॥

tathā ca nāṭyācāryāḥ paṭhanti —
eka eva bhavet sthāyī raso mukhyatamo hi yaḥ |
rasās tad-anuyāyitvād anye syur vyabhicāriṇaḥ
||4.8.43||

English translation

The authors on drama say: “The predominating rasa is the sthāyī-bhāva; all other rasas function as vyabhicārī-bhāvas, since they follow the predominating rasa.”
