The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 4.8.42; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

सो’ङ्गी सर्वातिगो यः स्यान् मुख्यो गौणो’थवा रसः ।
स एवाङ्गं भवेद् अङ्गि-पोषी सञ्चारितां व्रजन् ॥४.८.४२॥

so’ṅgī sarvātigo yaḥ syān mukhyo gauṇo’thavā rasaḥ |
sa evāṅgaṃ bhaved aṅgi-poṣī sañcāritāṃ vrajan
||4.8.42||

English translation

“In the mixture of rasas, the primary or secondary rasa that surpasses the others in taste is known as the aṅgī. A rasa that nourishes the aṅgī-rasa and takes on the function of a vyabhicārī-bhāva (temporary emotion) is an aṅga-rasa.”
