The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 3.3.22; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

तत्र सुहृदः —
वात्सल्य-गन्धि-सख्यां तु किञ्चित् ते वयसाधिकाः ।
सायुधास् तस्य दुष्टेभ्यः सदा रक्षा-परायणाः ॥३.३.२२॥

tatra suhṛdaḥ —
vātsalya-gandhi-sakhyāṃ tu kiñcit te vayasādhikāḥ |
sāyudhās tasya duṣṭebhyaḥ sadā rakṣā-parāyaṇāḥ
||3.3.22||

English translation

“The suhṛts have friendship mixed with a tinge of vatsala. They are slightly older than Kṛṣṇa, and carry weapons, always ready to protect Kṛṣṇa from demons.”
