atha hovāca mahāśālaṃ jābālam aupamanyava kaṃ tvaṃ vaiśvānaraṃ vetthetyākāśameva rājanniti hovācomiti hovācaiṣa vai bahulo vaiśvānara etaṃ hi vai tvam bahulaṃ vaiśvānaraṃ vettha tasmāttvam bahuḥ prajayā paśubhirasi yo etam bahulaṃ vaiśvānaraṃ vedāpa punarmṛtyuṃ jayati sarvamāyuretyātmā tvā eṣa vaiśvānarasyātmā tvāhāsyadyadi ha nāgamiṣya ityātmā te'vidito'bhaviṣyadyadi ha nāgamiṣya iti

He then said to Mahashala Jabala, “O Aupamanyava, as whom knowest thou Vaishvanara?”—“As Ether only, O king,” he replied.—“Yea,” he said, “that, indeed, is the Vaishvanara Plenteous; and because thou knowest Vaishvanara Plenteous, therefore thou art plentiful in offspring and cattle; and, verily, he who knows that Vaishvanara Plenteous, repels death and attains all life. But, in truth, this is only the trunk of Vaishvanara, and thy trunk would have failed thee, hadst thou not come hither; or the body would be unknown to thee, hadst thou not come hither.”
