Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. विषयप्रतिसंहारो मितजल्पस्तथा शमः ।
एष प्रवृत्तको धर्मो निवृत्तकमथो शृणु ॥ १० ॥

viṣayapratisaṃhāro mitajalpastathā śamaḥ |
eṣa pravṛttako dharmo nivṛttakamatho śṛṇu || 10 ||
