The Garga-samhita Verse 5.24.57, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 5 of Chapter 24 (The Killing of the Kola Demon) of Canto 5 (mathura-khanda).

गङ्गा ब्राह्मण-मुख्यस्य
जाह्नवी येन कथ्यते
दत्वा दानं द्विजातिभ्य
उषु रात्रौ जनैः सह

gaṅgā brāhmaṇa-mukhyasya
jāhnavī yena kathyate
datvā dānaṃ dvijātibhya
uṣu rātrau janaiḥ saha

gaṅgāGanges; brāhmaṇa-mukhyasya—of the best of brāhmaṇas; jāhnavīJāhnavī; yena—by whom; kathyate—is called; datvā—giving; dānamcharity; dvijātibhyaḥ—to the brāhmaṇas; uṣuḥ—resided; rātrau—at night; janaiḥ—people; sahawith.

English translation of verse 5.24.57:

Jahnu is the great Brāhmaṇa after whom the Ganges is called Jāhnavī. There Lord Balarāma gave chairty ot the brāhmaṇas and then stayed the night with His associates.
