मृत्युं समागतं वीक्ष्य
मञ्चाद् उत्थाय स-त्वरम्
मदोद्धतो भर्त्सयंस् तं
जगृहे खड्ग-चर्मणी

mṛtyuṃ samāgataṃ vīkṣya
mañcād utthāya sa-tvaram
madoddhato bhartsayaṃs taṃ
jagṛhe khaḍga-carmaṇī

mṛtyum—death; samāgatam—come; vīkṣyaseeing; mañcāt—from the box; utthāyagoing; sa-tvaram—quickly; madoddhataḥ—wildly; bhartsayan—rebuking; tam—Him; jagṛhe—grabbed; khaḍgaa sword; carmaṇī—and shield.

English translation of verse 5.8.22:

Seeing that his death had come, Kaṃsa jumped from the box and, wildly rebuking Kṛṣṇa, grabbed a sword and shield.
