Whoever be the rulers, the fact that the temples of Uttaresvara and Kalesvara are built with moulded or carved bricks indicates that these probably belong to the 5th-6th century, when similar temples were being built in Rajputana, Madhya Pradesha and Bengal. Remains of such a moulded brick temple, also called Uttareshvara, were partially excavated at Kolhapur in 1946.
