Purana and Itihasa (epic history)
Suvismita (सुविस्मित) (Cf. Vismita) refers to “surprised”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.23 (“Attempt of Himavat to dissuade Pārvatī”).—Accordingly, after Pārvatī spoke to her parents and others: “After addressing thus, her father Himalaya, her mother Menakā, her brothers Maināka and Mandara, the eloquent Pārvatī, the daughter of the king of mountains, kept quiet. Thus addressed by Pārvatī, the lord of mountains and the other mountains went back the way they came, surprised [i.e., suvismita] within and praising her. After all of them had departed, she with firm resolve in the great Truth, accompanied by her maids performed a severe penance. [...]”.

The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.

Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
