Source: Wisdom Library: Śilpa-śāstraŚaṅkhakuṇḍala (शङ्खकुण्डल):—One of the five kinds of commonly known ear-ornaments (kuṇḍala). This ornament is created by cutting a conch-shell cross-wise which then produces a spiral ring which may be thrust into the distended ear-lobe. Conch shells were extensively employed in making ornaments for the ear as well as the forearm.
Shilpashastra (शिल्पशास्त्र, śilpaśāstra) represents the ancient Indian science (shastra) of creative arts (shilpa) such as sculpture, iconography and painting. Closely related to Vastushastra (architecture), they often share the same literature.
