General definition (in Hinduism)
Source: Apam Napat: Indian MythologyShalwa was the king of the Saubha Kingdom. Amba, the eldest princess of Kashi, had chosen him as her husband and would have selected him in the Swayamwara (self-choice ceremony), but she was abducted along with her two younger sisters by Bhishma. Bhishma wanted them to marry his younger brother Vichitraveerya.
Among the many kings that challenged Bhishma in his abduction, Shalwa was the foremost. After a bitter battle, he was worsted in combat. He barely escaped with his life, which he owed to the intervention of Amba on his behalf.
