Apavad (अपवद्).—1 U.

1) To revile, abuse, censure, reproach; परानमी यदपवदन्त आत्मनः (parānamī yadapavadanta ātmanaḥ) Śiśupālavadha 17.19; नार्तोऽप्यपवदेद्विप्रान् (nārto'pyapavadedviprān) Ms. 4.236; स्वं पुत्रं अपवदति-ते वा (svaṃ putraṃ apavadati-te vā) P.I.3.77. Sk. (kriyāphalasya kartṛgāmitve dyotite vā syāt); नृभ्योऽपवदमानस्य (nṛbhyo'pavadamānasya) Bhaṭṭikāvya 8.45 reviling or abusing men.

2) To disown, deny (A.); न्याय- मपवदते (nyāya- mapavadate) P.I.3.73 Sk.

3) To argue out, refute, contradict; अपवदेयुस्तानितिहासैः पुरातनैः (apavadeyustānitihāsaiḥ purātanaiḥ) Y.3.7. -Caus.

2) To oppose or contradict as unadvisable.
