Verse 2.35ab
Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.35ab:
राजशब्देन राजार्थो भिन्नरूपेण गम्यते ।
rājaśabdena rājārtho bhinnarūpeṇa gamyate |
35(ab). The word rājan conveys the idea of ‘king’ through its different forms.
Commentary
It is now stated that, as the individual word is something indefinite, its reality should not be accepted.

[The word rājan does not occur in speech in a particular form but in its different inflexional forms like rājā, rājānam, rājñā, rājñe, rājñaḥ, rājñi (or rājani). If the word had a reality, its form would not thus change.]
