Text 10.208 [Adhika]

49. Adhika

महतोर् यन् महीयांसाव् आश्रिताश्रययोः क्रमात् ।
आश्रयाश्रयिणौ स्यातां तनुत्वेऽप्य् अधिकं तु तत् ॥ १०.१२८ ॥

mahator yan mahīyāṃsāv āśritāśrayayoḥ kramāt |
āśrayāśrayiṇau syātāṃ tanutve'py adhikaṃ tu tat ||10.128||

mahatoḥ—are vast; yat—if (yat = yadi); mahīyāṃsau—the two are greater; āśrita-āśrayayoḥ—when the contents and the container; kramāt—sequentially; āśraya-āśrayiṇau—the container and the contents; syātām—are; tanutve api—although there is smallness; adhikam—the ornament called adhika; tu—only; tat—that.

When the container, though smaller, greatly exceeds the contents, or when the contents, though smaller, greatly exceed the container, that is adhika (exceeding).

mahator apy ādheyādhārayor viṣaye tad-apekṣayā svalpāv apy ādhārādheyau prakṛta-bhūma-vivakṣayā krameṇa cen mahīyāṃsau syātāṃ tadā dvi-vidham adhikam. ādhārādheyayor ekasyādhikye’dhikam iti hi niṣkarṣaḥ. (See above.)
