प्रेद्धो॑ अग्ने दीदिहि पु॒रो नोऽज॑स्रया सू॒र्म्या॑ यविष्ठ । त्वां शश्व॑न्त॒ उप॑ यन्ति॒ वाजा॑: ॥
प्रेद्धो अग्ने दीदिहि पुरो नोऽजस्रया सूर्म्या यविष्ठ । त्वां शश्वन्त उप यन्ति वाजाः ॥
preddho agne dīdihi puro no 'jasrayā sūrmyā yaviṣṭha | tvāṃ śaśvanta upa yanti vājāḥ ||
English translation:
“Well-kindled, youthful Agni, shine before us with undecaying radiance; to you abundant sacrificialviands proceed.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
With undecaying radiance: ajasrayā sūrmyā: surmi = samitkāṣṭham, kindled wood; or itmay mean a metal stake or post, red hot; therefore, figurately, it denotes a flame
