तयोश् च गदया युद्धं
घोर-रूपं बभूव ह
तडनाच् चट्चटा-शब्दं
काल-मेघ-तडिद्-ध्वनि
tayoś ca gadayā yuddhaṃ
ghora-rūpaṃ babhūva ha
taḍanāc caṭcaṭā-śabdaṃ
kāla-megha-taḍid-dhvani
tayoḥ—of them both; ca—and; gadayā—with club; yuddham—fight; ghora-rūpam—horrible; babhūva—was; ha—indeed; taḍanāt—from the blows; caṭcaṭā- śabdam—the sound caṭcaṭā; kāla—black; megha—clouds; taḍid-dhvani—thunder.
English translation of verse 2.23.12:
They fought a terrible club-duel. The caṭcaṭā sound of their blows was like the lightning of black clouds.
