The Chaitanya Bhagavata 2.7.38, English translation, including a commentary (Gaudiya-bhasya). This text is similair to the Caitanya-caritamrita and narrates the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, proclaimed to be the direct incarnation of Krishna (as Bhagavan) This is verse 38 of Madhya-khanda chapter 7—“The Meeting of Gadadhara and Pundarika”.

আসিযা রহিলা নবদ্বীপে গূঢ-রূপে পরম ভোগীর প্রায সর্ব-লোকে দেখে ॥ ৩৮ ॥
आसिया रहिला नवद्वीपे गूढ-रूपे परम भोगीर प्राय सर्व-लोके देखे ॥ ३८ ॥
āsiyā rahilā navadvīpe gūḍha-rūpe parama bhogīra prāya sarva-loke dekhe || 38 ||
asiya rahila navadvipe gudha-rupe parama bhogira praya sarva-loke dekhe (38)
English translation:
(38) He came and secretly resided in Navadvīpa, where everyone saw him as a gross materialist.
Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:
By the attraction of the Lord, Puṇḍarīka came to Śrīdhāma Māyāpur- Navadvīpa and secretly stayed at his own house. Only those who were unqualified to attain his actual association mistook him for a gross materialist. Just as foolish people who do not understand the opulence of the Ācārya-Vaiṣṇava-Guru and his method of worship make the mistake
of considering him to be like themselves, it is not at all astonishing to commit a similar mistake in this case.
