Used esp. with some reference to its quality as mild, salubrious, agreeable &c., or to its intensity or force. 2 The flowing breath (currency or prevalency) of, as of some epidemic; as paṭakīcēṃ -jarīmarīcēṃ -hiṃvatāpācēṃ or tāpācēṃ -khōkalyācēṃ -paḍaśācēṃ or khōkalyāpaḍaśācēṃ -vārēṃ. v cāla, vāha, vāja, suṭa. Hence, simply, an epidemic. 3 An emanation from some deity or devil in occupation of a person; an afflatus of some spirit: also the subject of the afflatus: also a blast or gust of; as sampattīcēṃ vārēṃ. v yē, bhara. Ex. śarīrīṃ bharē varṇitāṃ rāmavārēṃ ||. 4 An air or a cast, features, lineaments, characters (in a countenance or general appearance) considered as prognostic or as indicative (as of genius, particular taste or bent, future fortunes). Ex. tumacē aṅgī kārakunīcēṃ vārēṃ āhē mhaṇūna tumhī hiśōbāsa bahādūra. Also the air or breathing or general forthgoing and acting (as of an affection or a passion; as prītīcēṃ -mamatēcēṃ -rāgācēṃ -śōkācēṃ -ānandācēṃ vārēṃ āṇaṇēṃ &c.) 5 Spirit or quality; inherent vitality, virtue, vigor (as of times, seasons, conjunctions, places). Ex. pahilēṃ bighyāsa pāñca khaṇḍī bhāta pikata hōtēṃ tēṃ vārēṃ ātāṃ gēlēṃ hō; tāruṇyācēṃ vārēṃ, baḷācēṃ vārēṃ &c. 6 vārēṃ, from the first and third senses, is used very vaguely or widely in the general sense of Whimsey, fancy, freak, crotchet, airy scheme, wild notion or thought. Ex. tēṃ vārēṃ sōḍa dusarēṃ kāṃhīṃ miṣa dhara. vārēṃ āṇaṇēṃ or aṅgīṃ āṇaṇēṃ To profess and make display of (as of soldiership, writership &c.) without possessing the qualifications of. vārēṃ jāṇēṃ To pass over and affect injuriously--a blast or the wind.
