Dhanvayavāsa (धन्वयवास) is a Sanskrit word referring to “camelthorn”, a shrub from the Fabaceae (legume/bean) family, and is used throughout Ayurvedic literature such as the Caraka-saṃhitā. It also known by the shorter name Yavāsa or Yavāsaka. The official botanical name of the plant is Alhagi maurorum and is commonly known in English as “camelthorn-bush” or “Persian mannaplant” among others.

The plant is also mentioned as a medicine used for the treatment of all major fevers, as described in the Jvaracikitsā (or “the treatment of fever”) which forms the first chapter of the Sanskrit work called Mādhavacikitsā. In this work, the plant has the following synonyms: Durālabha, Yāsa and Yavāsa.
