Bhūtadhāraṇā (भूतधारणा) refers to the “(five-fold) meditation on the elements”, according to the Vivekamārtaṇḍa (or Gorakṣaśataka), one of the earliest text on Haṭhayoga.—Accordingly, “Stabilizing, supporting, and burning as well as desiccating; this is the five-fold meditation on the elements (bhūtadhāraṇābhūtānāṃ pañcadhāraṇā)”.
