The Kaikkolars, traces their decent from Virabhau, one of the nine commanders of God Subramanya.[1] They were perhaps the royal troops who received pay from the treasury. Kaikollar Perumpadai included all the regiments. They were trained in warfare and their services were utilized by the King in times of emergency. This term has also been interpreted as weavers.[2] The Chola period inscriptions revealed much information about this community.

A few lithic records elucidated the donors from various regiments of Kaikkola community such as Araiyan Geyavitankan of SingalantakatterinjaKaikkola Community,[3] Devadividyaparan, member of the Muttavalperra kaikkola community,[4] Desavalavan Suryyan, a member of KodandaraMatterinja-Kaikkola community.[5] A lithic record of denoted that endowment made by Devan kuppan of Virachola Terinja Kaikkolar.[6]
