Sri Mahakaleeswarar And Sundararaja Perumal Temples

These two temples for Siva and Vishnu are situated at a distance of one mile from the Paclalam railway station at Palayanur village and can be reached both by buses and trains. The temples were built some 700 years ago. Some stone inscriptions are found in the Mahakaleeswarar Devasthanam but they are not legible. These temples cover an area of 300’ x 200’. The Lingam in the Siva temple is a Swayambu. The priests of these temples perform poojas once a day. There is a Palanquin. Arudhra dharsan is the only festival observed in the Siva temple and no festival is celebrated in the Vishnu temple. It is stated that the temple lands are under the enjoyment of some local Mirasdars who are not rendering proper accounts. A trustee is looking after the affairs of both the temples.
