This page relates ‘Methodology’ of the study on the Rudra-Shiva concept in the Vedic and Puranic literature, starting with the concept of God as contemplated by the Rishis (Vedic sages). These pages further deal with the aspects, legends, iconography and eulology of Rudra-Shiva as found in the Samhitas, Brahamanas, Aranyakas, Upanishads Sutras and Puranas. The final chapters deal with descriptions of his greatness, various incarnations and epithets.

6. Methodology

In the present work, mainly analytical method is used or adopted. Descriptive method is also adopted in some places. At the very beginning of writing this thesis, the materials or data have been collected from different sources, i.e. primary and secondary sources. After collecting the materials, these are analyzed methodically. All the supporting references have been put as footnotes. This work is classified into seven chapters including the introductory one. In the last chapter, i.e. concluding chapter, a brief conclusion has been written on the basis of the findings. A bibliography containing consulted works has been attached in this dissertation. The Sanskrit words have been written in italic excluding proper names.
