Dialectical terms (30): Offering irrelevant statement (arthāntara)

Offering irrelevant statement (arthāntara) consists in setting aside the relevant topic and introducing the irrelevant one.[1]

Example: When the disputant is expected to give the-definition of fever, he gives the definition of diabetes (prameha).This is also given in the Nyāya-sūtra.[2]
