Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.384:
अनुग्रहार्थ भोक्तॄणां भुजिरारभ्यते यदा ।
देशकालाद्यभेदेन नानुगृह्णाति तानसौ ॥ ३८४ ॥anugrahārtha bhoktṝṇāṃ bhujirārabhyate yadā |
deśakālādyabhedena nānugṛhṇāti tānasau || 384 ||384. When the act of feeding is done for favouring those who eat, then, if there is no difference in time, place, etc. it does not favour them.
Commentary
Whether the action of eating is one or many is now considered.

[The idea seems to be that it is not by feeding them irrespective of time and place that one favours them. One would favour them either way, by observing difference of time and place and by not observing it:—Bhedena tu pratyekam prakrame sarvo'nugṛhyate, says the Vṛtti. If the feeding is for favouring the eaters, one has to act in such a manner that they are favoured, by not observing difference or by observing difference, according to what is needed: Yathā teṣām anugraho bhavati tathā viniyogavyapekṣā.]
