Verse 2.34

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 2.34:

अकीर्तिं चापि भूतानि कथयिष्यन्ति तेऽव्ययाम् ।
सम्भावितस्य चाकीर्तिर् मरणाद् अतिरिच्यते ॥ ३४ ॥

akīrtiṃ cāpi bhūtāni kathayiṣyanti te'vyayām |
sambhāvitasya cākīrtir maraṇād atiricyate || 34 ||

akīrtim–infamy; ca–and; api–also; bhūtāni–all people; kathayiṣyanti–will speak; te–of your; avyayām–unending; sambhāvitasya–for an honourable person; ca–and; akīrtiḥ–dishonour; maraṇāt–than death; atiricyate–becomes greater.

People will speak of your infamy for all time. For an honourable person, dishonour is more painful than death.

Here the word avyayām means ‘indestructible’, and sambhāvitasya indicates a very honourable or famous person.
