The Chaitanya Bhagavata 3.5.381, English translation, including a commentary (Gaudiya-bhasya). This text is similair to the Caitanya-caritamrita and narrates the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, proclaimed to be the direct incarnation of Krishna (as Bhagavan) This is verse 381 of Antya-khanda chapter 5—“The Pastimes of Nityananda”.

Bengali text, Devanagari and Unicode transliteration of verse 3.5.381:

গোপী-ভাবে বাহ্য নাহি গদাধর দাসে নিরবধি আপনাকে ‘গোপী হেন বাসে ॥ ৩৮১ ॥

गोपी-भावे बाह्य नाहि गदाधर दासे निरवधि आपनाके ‘गोपी हेन वासे ॥ ३८१ ॥

gopī-bhāve bāhya nāhi gadādhara dāse niravadhi āpanāke ‘gopī hena vāse || 381 ||

gopi-bhave bahya nahi gadadhara dase niravadhi apanake ‘gopi hena vase (381)

English translation:

(381) Gadādhara dāsa had no external consciousness, for he was absorbed in the mood of a gopī and always considered himself to be a gopī.

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

Śrī Gadādhara dāsa always remained absorbed in his constitutional

position and did not externally accept the dress of a sakhī. He certainly was always absorbed in the mood of a gopī, but he did not display duplicity by wearing a gopīs dress.
