The Chaitanya Bhagavata 2.21.49, English translation, including a commentary (Gaudiya-bhasya). This text is similair to the Caitanya-caritamrita and narrates the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, proclaimed to be the direct incarnation of Krishna (as Bhagavan) This is verse 49 of Madhya-khanda chapter 21—“The Lord’s Chastisement of Devananda”.

Bengali text, Devanagari and Unicode transliteration of verse 2.21.49:

মদ্যপে ও সুখ পায চৈতন্যে দেখিযা একলে নিন্দযে পাপী সন্ন্যাসী দেখিযা ॥ ৪৯ ॥

मद्यपे ओ सुख पाय चैतन्ये देखिया एकले निन्दये पापी सन्न्यासी देखिया ॥ ४९ ॥

madyape o sukha pāya caitanye dekhiyā ekale nindaye pāpī sannyāsī dekhiyā || 49 ||

madyape o sukha paya caitanye dekhiya ekale nindaye papi sannyasi dekhiya (49)

English translation:

(49) Even drunkards felt happy to see Lord Caitanya, whereas sinful

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

sannyāsīs who saw Him simply engaged in blasphemy.

Even the drunkards were happy to see Mahāprabhu. Only sinful people without any understanding misused the principles of renunciation and engaged in blasphemy.
