The Chaitanya Bhagavata 1.5.39, English translation, including a commentary (Gaudiya-bhasya). This text is similair to the Caitanya-caritamrita and narrates the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, proclaimed to be the direct incarnation of Krishna (as Bhagavan) This is verse 39 of Adi-khanda chapter 5—“Eating the Mendicant Brahmana’s Offerings”.

Bengali text, Devanagari and Unicode transliteration of verse 1.5.39:

বিপ্র বোলে,—“মিশ্র, তুমি বড দেখি আর্য! কোন্ জ্ঞান বালকের মারিযা কি কার্য? ॥ ৩৯ ॥

विप्र बोले,—“मिश्र, तुमि बड देखि आर्य! कोन् ज्ञान बालकेर मारिया कि कार्य? ॥ ३९ ॥

vipra bole,—“miśra, tumi baḍa dekhi ārya! kon jñāna bālakera māriyā ki kārya? || 39 ||

vipra bole,—“misra, tumi bada dekhi arya! kon jnana balakera mariya ki karya? (39)

English translation:

(39) “Miśra, you are supposed to be a cultured Āryan! What is the use of beating this ignorant boy?

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

The brāhmaṇa said, “O Miśra, you are elderly and respectable, and He is only a foolish child. So it is not worth while to punish Him for His foolishness.”
