Virittal (விரித்தல்) noun < விரி²-. [viri²-.]

1. (Grammar) A poetic licence which consists in the augmentation of a letter in the middle of a word, one of nine ceyyuḷ-vikāram, q.v.; செய்யுள்விகாரம் ஒன்பதனுள் சொல்லிடையே எழுத்துத் தோன்றுவது. [seyyulvigaram onpathanul sollidaiye ezhuthuth thonruvathu.] (நன். [nan.] 155.)

2. Elaborate treatment of topics briefly dealt with in a former treatise, one of four nūl-yāppu, q.v.; நூல்யாப்பு நான்கனுள் முன் னூலிற் றொகுத்துக் கூறப்பட்டதனை விளங்குமாறு விரித்துக் கூறுவது.
