Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationVikaṭarūpa (विकटरूप) refers to a “hideous form”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.44 (“Menā regains consciousness”).—Accordingly, as Himācala said to Menā: “[...] Do not be obstinate. O faultless beloved, do not be grief-stricken. Get up. Hasten. O virtuous one, carry on your duties. Let me remind you of a former incident when Śiva came to our place in a hideous form (vikaṭarūpa-dhṛk) and exhibited his sports. But on seeing his greatness we both consented to give our daughter in marriage to him. O beloved, keep that promise”.
