Vidyutsamādhi (विद्युत्समाधि) refers to the “meditative stability that resembles lightning”, according to the Daśasāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā, a large Mahāyāna Sūtra detailing the structural progression of the Bodhisattva path in thirty-three chapters.—Accordingly, as Buddha Śākyamuni said to Venerable Subhūti: “Leaving aside the meditative stabilities of the Tathāgatas‍—the meditative stability that resembles lightning (vidyutsamādhi), the authentic meditative stability, and the adamantine meditative stability‍—they will also achieve and maintain whichever other meditative stabilities are appropriate‍—the meditative stability of the śrāvakas, the meditative stability of the Pratyekabuddhas, or any other categories of meditative stability, having suffused them all with their bodies.408 But they will not relish these meditative stabilities or the fruits of these meditative stabilities [...]”.
