Source: academia.edu: Tessitori Collection I1) Varasiṃha (वरसिंह) or “Ṛṣi Varasiṃha” is the author of the Pārśvanāthastavana (dealing with Pārśva in Jain literature), which is included in the collection of manuscripts at the ‘Vincenzo Joppi’ library, collected by Luigi Pio Tessitori during his visit to Rajasthan between 1914 and 1919.—[...] [At the end] come a few verses numbered 2 to 5, 1 apparently missing. they relate to a part of the biography of the lonkāgaccha leader Ṛṣi ( Junior) Varasiṃhajī born VS 1589, died VS 1662: mother’s name, place of dīkṣā, i.e. Sirohi, name of teacher, i.e. Lālajī (see JgK 9, p. 137, text 17 in this ms. = cat. no. 340 for a poem dedicated to this teacher). Since the term ḍhāla, used once in the pārśva hymn, occurs at the end, it could mean that Varasiṃha is the author of this work.
2) Varasiṃha (वरसिंह) is the name of an ancient teacher, according to the “rṣi Varasiṃhajī nī bhāsa”.—[...] Śrīmalla as the author’s name is not fully certain. Poem in two parts devoted to the lives of two teachers of the Gujarati lonkāgaccha: 1) on Junior Varasiṃgha VS 1589 – VS 1662 (JgK 9, p. 137), but the text does not provide any date. As usual in this kind of work, there is a combination of factual details and praise of religious qualities (observing the five great vows, overcoming passions and sense-faculties, etc.). Place of origin Sādaḍī (Rajasthan), father’s name Jaṃjhaṇa, mother’s name Suṃdari Satī. Took initiation under Lālajī in Sirohi. Became leader of the group (gacharāya, 190v15). Died in Sojhata, 191r5). All this is in agreement with evidence from other sources.
