Vīrattāneśvara (वीरत्तानेश्वर).—Pillur is a small village situated about 18 kms from Namakkal, in the taluk of Paramatti. In this village is the temple of Vīrattāneśvara, which is an east facing shrine. This temple is datable to 10th century A.D. on stylistic grounds.

This temple is a good example for ekatala-vimāna class of temples. The temple has all the ṣaḍvargas. On elevation, it has a pādabandha-adhiṣṭhāna with single gala. The bhitti has four bhittipādas of bramhakānta variety. These bhittipādas possess an ādhārapotika. The prastara above has a valabhi decorated with a bhūtamāla.

The bhūtas are shown in various postures as squatting, dancing, playing, frisking and playing on musical instruments. It is interesting to note that one of the bhūta has an elephant face. These bhūtas are relieved in high relief, to appear almost in the round.
