Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationSainyodyoga (सैन्योद्योग) refers to “activity of the army”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.2.35. Accordingly, as Viṣṇu said to Dakṣa:—“[...] on hearing these words of Viṣṇu, Dakṣa began to ponder. He sat quietly on the ground with his face turned pale. [...] on seeing the enterprising activity of the army [viz., sainyodyoga], Dakṣa’s face turned red with agitation. He fell at the feet of Viṣṇu straight like a staff, prostrated at his feet, along with his wife and said thus”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
