Source: SriMatham: Vaiṣṇava Iconology based on Pañcarātra ĀgamaIn this Spiritual Realm (Parama Vyoman) God resides in the form of Paravāsudeva. He is adorned with the nine chief ornaments and weapons which represent the various cosmic principles of the universe.
- kaustubha (chest jewel) – jivas
- śrīvatsa – prakṛti
- gadā (mace) – mahat (cosmic intelligence).
- śaṅkha (conch) – sāttvic ahaṃkāra
- śārṅga (bow) – tamasic ahaṃkāra - the mind
- khaḍga (sword) – knowledge
- cakra (discus) – universal mind
- bāṇa (arrows) – five senses
- vanamāla (garland) – elements
These weapons and ornaments are not regarded as mere symbols but are actually connected with the principles which they represent as the presiding deities. The great authority on this is the astra-bhūṣana-adhyaya of the Vishnu Purana.
Pancaratra (पाञ्चरात्र, pāñcarātra) represents a tradition of Hinduism where Narayana is revered and worshipped. Closeley related to Vaishnavism, the Pancaratra literature includes various Agamas and tantras incorporating many Vaishnava philosophies.
