ghaṭaṇēṃ (घटणें).—v i ( H) To shrink or contract--cloth &c. 2 To decrease or waste--grain &c. by dryage, spillage, leakage. 3 To grow firm, compact, close set--the body or limbs. 4 To become fixed, settled, confirmed--an art or a science by practice or study. 5 To be versed, practised, well exercised and skilled in. Ex. tyā kāmāmadhyēṃ tyā vidyē madhyēṃ mī ghaṭalōṃ or mājhā hāta ghaṭalā or mājhī buddhi ghaṭalī. 6 To befit or beseem; to be suitable or appropriate unto. 7 (Poetry.) To abate or decrease; to subside, go down, be appeased &c. Ex. jaisē bhāji- lē karavaṭē || tēṇēṃ kṣudhā na ghaṭē ||.
