Gautamadvīpa (गौतमद्वीप) refers to the abode of Susthita, the lord of the Lavaṇoda ocean surrounding Jambūdvīpa which is situated in the “middle world” (madhyaloka), according to chapter 2.3 [ajitanātha-caritra] of Hemacandra’s 11th century Triṣaṣṭiśalākāpuruṣacaritra: an ancient Sanskrit epic poem narrating the history and legends of sixty-three illustrious persons in Jainism.

Accordingly:—“Next, surrounding Jambūdvīpa, and twice as wide, is the ocean named Lavaṇoda. [...] At 12,000 yojanas (from Jambūdvīpa) in the intermediate directions in the east are the two islands of the Moon, with an equal width and length (i.e. 12,000). At the same distance in the west are the two islands of the Sun; and also at the same distance is Gautamadvīpa, the abode of Susthita. On these are palaces, the abodes of the inner and outer suns and moons of Lavaṇoda”.
