Anvayyudāharaṇa (अन्वय्युदाहरण) or simply Anvayin refers to an “affirmative” or “homogeneous” example (udāharaṇa), according to Upāyakauśalyahṛdaya, an ancient work on the art of debate composed by Bodhisattva Nāgārjuna.—The example (udāharaṇa) is necessary to clear the reasons of a disputant and his respondent. It is of two kinds: (1) the affirmative or homogeneous example (anvayyudāharaṇa), and (2) the negative or heterogeneous example (vyatireki udāharaṇa).
