Abhivad (अभिवद्).—1 U.

1) To speak to, address; परस्त्रियं योऽभिवदेत्तीर्थेऽरण्ये वनेऽपि वा (parastriyaṃ yo'bhivadettīrthe'raṇye vane'pi vā) Manusmṛti 8.356; Y.2.31.

2) To speak of or with reference to, tell, declare, mention; यत्कर्म क्रियमाणं ऋगभिवदति (yatkarma kriyamāṇaṃ ṛgabhivadati) Ait. Br.

3) To express, utter, signify; यद्वाचाऽनभ्युदितं येन वागभ्युद्यते । तदेव ब्रह्म त्वं विद्धि नेदं यदिदमुपासते (yadvācā'nabhyuditaṃ yena vāgabhyudyate | tadeva brahma tvaṃ viddhi nedaṃ yadidamupāsate) Ken.1.4.

Abhivad (अभिवद्).—speak to, salute; say with regard to, mean by a word etc., express, utter, declare to be, call (2 [accusative]). [Causative] address, salute; *[Middle] greet a [person or personal] ([accusative]) by means of another ([accusative] or [instrumental]); make resound i.e. play on ([accusative]).
