Abhisandha (अभिसन्ध):—[tatpurusha compound] m.

(-ndhaḥ) A detractor, a calumniator. See the following. (For the fem. abhisandhā see s. v.) E. dhā with sam and abhi, kṛt aff. ka.

(-ndhā) 1) Speech, word, declaration (with the implied sense of deliberateness); e. g. Chhānd. Up.: sa yadi tasya kartā bhavati (i. e. if a man has committed a theft) tata evānṛtamātmānaṃ kurute (and by denying it makes himself untrue) sonṛtābhisaṃdhonṛtenātmānamantardhāya paraśuṃ taptaṃ parigṛhṇāti sa dahyatetha hanyate . atha yadi tasyākartā bhavati tata eva satyamātmānaṃ kurute sa satyābhisaṃdhaḥ satyenātmānamantardhāya paraśuṃ taptaṃ parigṛhṇāti sa na dahyatetha mucyate.

2) Promise, agreement; e. g. Rāmāy.: tena (sc. daśarathena) satyābhisaṃdhena trivargamanutiṣṭhatā . pālitā sā purī śreṣṭhā indreṇevāmarāvatī. Compare abhisaṃdhāna and abhisaṃdhi. E. dhā with sam and abhi, kṛt aff. aṅ.
