Kumbabhishegam Gestival

Kumbabhishegam is also an important festival. It is a consecration of the new temple or re-dedication of old temples after renovation. The Kumbabhishegam (consecrated) of this temple was performed on 1978 after completing several renovation works.

It is essentially a water festival. Water brought from holy rivers is kept in special containers, and prayers are held for a few days at the yaga to install magnetic and spiritual qualities to the water. Then they are poured over the temple towers. Their sacredness is so widely recognized that people try to get a drop or two of it over their heads. Attendance at yagasalai is believed to ensure good health, and attendance at Kumbabhishegam is considered one of the significant ways for getting the blessings of the almighty.

The this Adavalleswarar sacred temple of great spiritual importance attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year, who celebrate marriages and discharge their vows and prarthnas (prayers). Though the conduct of festivals is not compulsory, temples have arranged at least the annual festival. The number and the grandeur of festivals mainly depend upon the financial position of each temple.[1]
