Translated by P. MACHWE from his own Hindi
when there was an anguish
i thought of you
but the messaih had gone on an eternal picnic
gone out as light of a candle
remembrance no more remained a support
two columns which Samson could not break
columns of a newspaper shamefully announcing
i divorced you because of my impotence
my impotence was a cloak and a pretext
i wanted my senses to graze
and the paraphrase of my being
was a mechanical calculator gone out of order
operated by a fugitive from a madhouse
anguish has ensoured my essence
headlines are the babyfood of my soul
lies the vitamins of my mind
‘I’
cannot die as the mask of my life-belt
anti-missile bond of chastity
i cannot bleed as the corpuscels are ashamed
to come out before the knife of civilization
cute and polished and handleless
ever ready to kill without pain or qualms.
