Dialectical terms (14): Investigation (jijñāsā)

Investigation (jijñāsā) means a deliberate examination (parīkṣā). For instance, a medicine is prescribed for a disease only after a proper examination.[1] Akṣapāda does not refer to jijñāsā in his categorical discussion. But Vātsyāyana uses it in a different sense. He considers it as one of the five factors which initiate discussion.[2]
